Everybody has a Secret~ Project PostSecret!

Lay it on me, I don't have these big ears for nothing!

Everyone Has A Secret...

Due to the popular result on my recent poll, I decided to go ahead and give this PostSecret project a shot! Before I can go into details, I’d like to take this moment to thank you all for your consideration on helping me out with this project. You all are just amazing and brave. I know sharing a secret is always a hard thing to do but do remember, neither I nor anybody else will know who you are as this whole project is based upon being anonymous. Not only am I doing this just for the grade, but I do want to reach out to every one of you. In the end, I do hope that this project will also help you feel better about yourself, or at least, taken some part of your heavy burden off your shoulders by getting something off your chest. Thank you once again~! Love ya!!

So, what exactly is PostSecret?

Some of you may have already heard of the famous PostSecret that is hosted by the most trusted stranger in America, Frank Warren. There are already 5 books published [PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives, My Secret, The Secret Lives of Men and Women, A Lifetime of Secrets, and Confessions on Life, Death, & God] and he also host a web blog where he updates 20 new secrets every week -> [link]

However, for those of you who don’t know what PostSecret is, it is an ongoing mail art community in which people mail in their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. It gives them a chance to get creative while confessing to something; as Frank Warren likes to think that it helps that person to get started on their self-healing journey. Not only this project is supportive on an individual, but it also gives a constant inspiration and hope to billions of people around the world. It is one of those rare moments where strangers can actually find a common ground with one another to create a community of acceptance, and end up not feeling alone once they realize that somewhere, someone feels the same...

“There are two kinds of secrets: those we keep from others and those we hide from ourselves...”
-Frank Warren

What do I have to do to contribute?

It’s actually really quite simple and wouldn’t take up much of your time; in fact, I like to think that the hardest part about this project is deciding which kind of a secret you want to share! Follow these steps below to get your secret in and remember... KEEP IT ANONYMOUS! ;)

:bulletyellow: First, either buy an actual postcard or make one of yourself; the only thing that I ask about this is that I’d like for it to be a standard size of 6 x 4.25 inches. [It’s not required, but it is preferred.]

:bulletblue: Decorate the postcard however way you want to and write your secret on there! Get creative! As long as you feel like it expresses your secret well; sometimes even the simplest way to go can be the most powerful piece.
-Need inspiration? There are hundreds of PostSecret postcards all over the internet; I recommend checking out the actual web blog [[link] or even Google it! :3

:bulletred: Once you are happy with your postcard, scan it or take a picture of it, and upload it to any of photo sites. [Imageshack, Photobucket, Flickr, etc]
-Even then, most sites ask for a username and I’m looking for a way for you to stay anonymous, I URGE you to use ImageShack. Imageshack doesn’t even require you to sign up in order to upload photos. Pretty neat, huh? 8)

:bulletwhite: Go to this link -> [link] And post your ‘question’; IF YOU’RE LOGGED IN, DON’T FORGET TO CHECK THE “Ask anonymously” BOX!

:bulletgreen: This will go on for a few weeks so you got some time to work your postcard; once it reaches the deadline when I NEED the postcards, I will gather them together and use them as material for my final class project. The question of ‘should I keep it going?’ will be asked afterwards; it all depends on how many people actually participate.

:bulletpurple: It’s be really amazing if you could SPREAD THE WORD! I need as many secrets I can get my paws on!

NOTICE: Not sure how to do any of that stuff? Thankfully for you, I have created this handy, dandy tutorial to make it easier on you! Check it out! 8D -> [link]

This can go on for as long as you want, but for my Capstone project, I NEED the postcards by September 7th. It might change; it might not, I will be sure to keep y’all updated!

Sounds Easy Enough! But do you have rules?

I do have some guidelines for you to follow so please read this thoroughly before you work on your postcard! Otherwise, please do have fun! ;D

:bulletyellow: IT MUST BE TRUE. Please don’t make up a secret; real life is way more interesting!

:bulletblue: Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT put your name and/or screen-name on your postcard. I prefer this project to be completely anonymous! [Even if you get a sneaking suspicion that I might know who you are or already know a certain secret!]

:bulletred: I also prefer it if you don’t draw your character in there. It’s an instant dead giveaway on who you are! However if you still wish to draw them, please do it tastefully. Whatever you need to do to get your secret across! Just remember that, this is not Shout-It-Out.

:bulletwhite: Personally, I LOVE it whenever a postcard is done traditionally [the use of real life media and your own handwriting can be used to intensify the emotion!] BUT if you feel like your only option is to do it digitally, then be my guest. Like I said, whatever you need to do to get a secret out!

Awesome. But I have some questions...

This will be my ‘FAQ’ section. If you don’t see an answer you’re looking for in here, please don’t hesitate to ask! <3

”Can I send in more than one secret?”
YES, YOU MAY! If you feel like you want to get something else off your chest, feel free to send in as many secrets as you want as long each one has obvious effort into them. [Meaning don’t just half-ass it. This is something very personal to you!]

”Why do I have to send it to you digitally? Can’t I mail it to your house?”
As much as I would LOVE that... I can’t have that option available since I am still living in my parent’s house for the time being. I don’t think they would like me to give out my address and have a bunch of random postcards in their mailbox. That’d be awkward to explain! ^_^;

”Is there a topic restriction on my secret?”
No. Your secret can be either very humorous, or sexual, or could even be one of your deepest, darkest secret that you never even told anyone before. Just as long it is true and you just need to get it off your chest. I am not judgmental; in fact, it interests me! So go ahead, you have the freedom to express whatever you want.

”Do I REALLY have to use formspring? Can’t I send it through email?”
If you feel like you can’t use formspring to post your secret or you’re just uncomfortable with the idea, or… you just don’t care and prefer to send it through email since it’s faster and already has a file transfer in it, I am available to do that as well. Go ahead and send your secrets to Starmuttani@gmail.com! I just would like it better to be able to have all of my secrets in one place on formspring; it’d be easier to organize for me. 8)

”When’s the end date?”
There’s no definite end date, but I NEED the stuff in most likely by September 7th! That should give you plenty of time to work on a simple postcard!

”Why are you doing this project?”
This is actually somewhat of an ‘experiment’ for my Capstone class this semester; the final project has to be something that I’m interested in doing but never had the chance to in my other General Education class.  I’ve always been interested in studying a bit more into Psychology since that’s my most favorite class, general education wise, and PostSecret has always have fascinated me for years and years. I love reading about a person’s life, and a lot of secrets that I read through PostSecret just gets to me. So then I got curious and wanted to see what kind of secrets DeviantART members would hide from the rest of the society! ...Thisdoesn’tsoundcreepy!

”How many secrets do you need for your class?”
I’m aiming for 20 different secrets, but from my recent poll, it appears that over 30+ people are interested in giving this a try. Which... would be really friggin’ awesome! The more secrets I get, the better my project will be!!

”Will you continue the project, even if your class is over?”
At this point? I don’t know. If people are STILL submitting secrets, even long after the ‘end date’; I might. But like I said, it depends on the interest rate.

”Are you going to submit a secret?”
Yep… But it’s a secret. Shhhh~ ;D

Is that all?

From the looks of it, yep! 8D If you have ANY questions, any at all… Please, do send me a note or post a comment here and I promise to get to you ASAP. I thank you again for your consideration; I look forward to reading about your secrets! And remember... KEEP IT ANONYMOUS! 8)

“When we think we’re keeping a secret, that secret is actually keeping us…”

This idea is crazy! I like it that way...
The only part that gave me goosebumps was the "I need as many secrets I can get my paws on!", and the " I look forward to reading about your secrets!"

We, the people of this planet Earth, are crazy. Giving away secrets we though we would never shine light on? Things that could possibly put our integrity on question, or our self-esteem, or our rational mind? Yes, scream it on a sea of yells where your voice will be overpowered by the loud screech fearful-but-relieved minds.

Spread the word? I'm terrible at that, though I could try...

I LOVE the Postsecret books. My boyfriend says it's dumb that I buy them, but they are so inspiring.. (and depressing xD)
Um, I was wondering, are you going to post the links that everyone sends to your Formspring, or what?

WAT? PostSecret DUMB? NEVEEEHHHH! Seriously, it really is inspiring and you'd be surprised about some of the things people confesses to!

Yes I will. Which is why I asked everybody to post anonymously. :3
